This course is for electric lead and bass guitar players, drum kit players, keyboard players and vocalists. It involves practical live performance both individually and as part of a band. This course offers a nationally recognized Level 2 qualification equivalent toa GCSE at grades A to C.
Students will study three units: 'Live Performance', which involves both solo and group rehearsal and performance, culminating in an extended public performance; 'Instrumental Study', which involves students understanding the history and mechanics of their instrument, as well as extended performance techniques and music theory relating to the performance of their instrument; and 'Music Style Development', which requires students to analyse the growth and development of a particular style of music relating to their chosen instrument.
Assessment is by regular internal monitoring with student logs and video evidence. There is no final written exam.
Tuition will be through Guitar, Drum, Keyboard and Vocal instrumental teachers as well as curriculum music staff.
This course links directly into the BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Music (Performing), BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Music (Performing), and A Level Music Technology which are all taught at Sixth Form Level at Callington.
