Schubert Ensemble visit Music College

In March 2009, the internationally renowned Schubert Ensemble of London visited the Music College to work with Gifted and Talented students.

Fourteen pianists and string players formed ensembles, which were coached by members of the famous piano quintet as they played pieces from the Chamber Music 2000 Series especially written for young musicians in year 2000. Members of the Ensemble guided our players through expression, style and technical elements, as well as the challenge of playing together in a small group. This is the third time that the Schubert Ensemble has visited Callington Community College and their visits are always a highlight for those who work with them and listen to them playing.

Following the workshops, the quintet played a selection of movements from their current repertoire and talked about the content of the music and the three composers, Vaughan Williams, Schubert and Fauré, they featured. It was an excellent opportunity for the young audience to hear outstanding playing and to have parts of the music highlighted and explained in detail. The quintet also talked about their careers in the music industry, about how they came together and about their recent recording projects with Chandos Records.

The Schubert Ensemble has been at the forefront of British Chamber Music for 26 years and regularly gives over 50 professional concerts each year. They have played in 40 different countries around the world and have recorded 20 CDs. The Specialist Music College at Callington Community College was delighted to once again host a visit by this famous ensemble and look forward to another visit in the years ahead.
