The Callington students are all Gifted and Talented musicians currently in Year 7 and had been working with members of the orchestra in rehearsals for the big day.
The piece the orchestra chose was called Soul Limbo and is known by most people as the incidental music for the BBC coverage of Cricket test matches. The piece is built around a soca rhythm from Latin America and the thirty three youngsters formed the percussion section to play along with the backing from the 60 piece BBC orchestra.
After one final rehearsal on stage the Pavilions arena soon filled up with well over a thousand primary school children from Plymouth, Cornwall and Devon schools. The show was hosted by Kirsten O'Brien from the BBC SMart programme. Kirsten met the Callington performers before the show and later signed autographs. Soul Limbo was well received by a very enthusiastic audience who shouted and cheered their appreciation at the end of the piece.
Following lunch the show was repeated for a different audience in the afternoon so the Callington musicians had the opportunity to perform twice on the Pavilions stage.
